  • Are you aware of SVHCs?
  • SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) is a term one must be familiar with if one wishes to supply products to the European Union. SATRA’s website provides a comprehensive article outlining its SVHC list and REACH regulations.

Paragraph below is extracted from the original article:

“REACH – Substances of Very High Concern

“The main focus of the European REACH regulation is to provide better control on chemicals which are harmful to human health and the environment. Chemicals are divided into two groups for consideration of the regulation: ‘substances’ and ‘preparations’ (a mixture of substances). However, there is an additional class of product, referred to in the regulations as ‘articles’ – a category which includes apparel, equipment, furniture, toys and footwear.

Suppliers of articles have a set of obligations under the regulations which are different to suppliers of substances and preparations. While there is no need to register substances in articles, there is a requirement to pass on information about the presence of chemicals which are under investigation. These are referred to as ‘Substances of Very High Concern’ (SVHCs).”
