Below is an exempt from TUV Rheinland’s website, which will give you a comprehensive explanation on ISO16759:
On July 1, 2013, the International Standards Organization (ISO) announced a new ISO 16759:2013 standard “graphics technology - quantification and communication for calculating the carbon footprint of print media products”. The purpose of this new standard is to further understand the carbon footprint in the printing process.

The ISO 16759:2013 standard can be applied to the printing processes in many industries, including the traditional printing industry, textile industry, footwear industry and IT industry. Calculations can be performed on the printing processes relating to labels, packaging, literature and clothing. The purpose is to investigate and determine the carbon footprint of each element during the printing process, including materials, equipment operation, consumption of resources, etc. (TUV Rheinland 2014)
